SERVICE STATEMENT
With a Master’s degree in Drama Therapy from Kansas State University, I have worked in Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Homeless Shelters and Pre-File Diversion with Youth. Producing social issues theatre and film projects with teens, I started my own company in 2010, StormDoor Productions, to continue to produce projects about pervasive social themes, such as bullying, harassment, friendship, identity and respect. As a film producer I have partnered with national and local entities, including Committee for Children, Lied Center of Kansas, Arts MidWest, Douglas County District Attorney's Office, USD497, Lawrence Arts Center, VanGo Arts, CASA and others. I have worked in the nonprofit sector in human services for over 20 years.
The keys to making change are to collaborate, connect, and (re)create.
My current engagement with Douglas County’s Juvenile Detention Center allows me to work directly with youth who have disengaged from their community. I intend to create a dissertation project with detained youth, building a creative narrative project around their stories.
