SERVICE STATEMENT
As a Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education, and a Master’s degree in Drama Therapy from Kansas State University, I believe that
the keys to making change are to collaborate, connect, and (re)create.
Across my career, I have worked in Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Homeless Shelters and Pre-File Diversion with Youth. I started my own company in 2010, StormDoor Productions, to create projects about pervasive social themes, such as bullying, harassment, friendship, identity and respect. As a film producer I have partnered with national and local entities, including Committee for Children, Lied Center of Kansas, Arts MidWest, Douglas County District Attorney's Office, USD497, Lawrence Arts Center, VanGo Arts, CASA and others. I have worked in the nonprofit sector in human services for over 20 years. My current engagement with Douglas County’s Juvenile Detention Center allows me to work directly with youth who have disengaged from their community. I created my dissertation in partnership with young adults, formerly detained youth, a narrative project about their stories.
